NCP EQF 10 September 2010

The Malta Qualifications Council organised a National Coordination Point- European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Seminar. This seminar was held on the 10th September 2010 at the Corinthia San Gorg, St George's Bay.

This seminar was organised for private training providers. The seminar disseminated the developments related to qualification frameworks, recognition issues and qualifications referencing and level rating at European and National level. The specific focus was on implications of these developments to private training providers. It tackled specifically what they need to do in order to align their practices with the requirements of the referencing policy of the Malta Qualifications Council such that they can achieve cross-border accreditation for training and qualifications which they offer.

The seminar included both local and foreign speakers. The foreign speaker was Mr Sean O'Reilly who is a Project Officer working with the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland. He took up this position in January 2008 after many years working with schools in the UK. His main responsibilities include communication activities relating to the Irish National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and the continuing development of QualifaX, a National Learners' Database of programmes. Mr O'Reilly was a member of the National Steering Committee convened to oversee the Referencing of the NFQ to the EQF. Dr James Calleja, Chief Executive MQC also addressed the seminar.

This seminar formed part of a series of seminars which are co-financed by the European Commission. The Malta Qualifications Council was awarded a grant as part of the Lifelong Learning transversal programme - Activities of EQF National Coordination Points with a view to implement the EQF at a national level.
